HART Foster Care Services
(Home-based Alternatives to Residential Care)
Can you imagine being a child with no place to call home? Countless numbers of children have been removed from their homes and need someone to help them find a special place to live. HART Foster Care does just that. HART is a foster care program that serves children with a wide range of needs. HART serves both children in traditional and therapeutic care. HART's treatment program serves children within a home environment. HART strives to reduce problem behaviors and address the therapeutic issues of both the children and their parents in order to safely return children to a permanent home.
HART is a program that is licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families. HART works to place children in these homes by matching the needs of the child with the strengths of the foster parent. While in the foster home, both the children and the foster parents are provided with continuous in-home support by a Behavior Analyst, if needed.
A "team" concept is important to HART and critical in the growth and development of each foster child. The team for each child may consist of the child, foster parents, biological parents, and case manager. It could also include a variety of other people important in that child's life, such as teachers and previous foster parents. The team pools their knowledge about the strengths and needs of the child and develops a behavior plan to help that child to meet his or her goals. For Therapeutic children or if needed a Master's Level Certified Behavior Analyst assists the parents in teaching the child alternative, positive and appropriate ways of getting their needs met
It is also very important to HART that all foster parents be part of the team. HART helps the parents build supportive relationships with those who are a part of the same mission - making a difference in the life of a child. A network of foster parents is made available, and events are scheduled to give them the time to interact and support one another.
Children are referred at all ages, however, there is a great need for parents who will take teens. The typical length of stay is dependent on each child's specific situation and needs. It is HART's desire that our foster children be placed in one of our foster homes where they will grow and heal, until they return to a permanent setting.
"One hundred years from now,
it will not matter what kind of car I drove,
what kind of house I lived in,
how much was in my bank account,
nor what my clothes looked like.
But the world may be a little better
because I was important in the life of a child."
